Bill Solberg and spouse Patty Smiley turned to sailing in 1995 after Bill retired from UCLA as a Emeritus Professor of Dentistry. This led them to their beloved WIND DANCER (T3800). They hail from the California Yacht Club (CYC) in Marina del Rey and from the Catalina Island Yacht Club. in Avalon. Bill has crewed twice from NY to St. Thomas via Bermuda, and in 2055 sailed to Puerta Vallarta with WIND DANCER. He is a licensed C.G. captain and ham operator (KG6BZP). Bill and Patty frequent the TONE events back East. He makes hand-carved quarterboards and documentation boards for boats.

T3500 Elan

Doug Mills and spouse Sandy (top mainsheet handler) have sailed and raced since their youth. They bought ELAN (T3500) in 1995 and have raced this vessel extensively with many honors. Sandy was honored by the So. Cal. Sailing Assoc. in 2009. Doug is a long-time Professor of Physics at UCI. They are members of the Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club and the quaint Isthmus Yacht Club.

Don McLennan began sailing while in graduate school in San Diego California, in 1984 and is an active cruiser and racer since 1998.  Don and spouse Laura purchased Intuition (T3500) in 2011 and are gearing up for local cruising.  Don has extensive sailing credentials including:

  • USCG Merchant Mariner Credential: Master 50 Gross Tons Inland Waters, Mate 50 Gross Tons Near Coastal, OUPV and Sail Endorsement
  • Certified American Sailing Association (ASA) Sailing Instructor
  • Ham Radio General Class License (KJ6QWQ).
  • Certified Los Angeles County Underwater Instructor and NAUI Diving Instructor
  • Member of the Santa Cruz Island Foundation "All Eight Channel Islands Club"
