April 22, 2008

The 2008 TOSCA Rendezvous is rapidly approaching! Time flies when you are having fun. We are writing to update you on the cruise, and to describe this event in more detail.

If you are not already a 2008-registered member, join TOSCA by sending a check of $30 to: TOSCA, c/o Doug Mills, 5061 Berean Lane, Irvine, CA 92603 Note: registration for the 2008 Rendezvous is open only to paid members. We are delighted with the initial response to our notice of annual dues. So far, twenty people have stepped forward with a check, so we now have a real organization! Paid members in good standing will receive a 10% discount on parts ordered from the Tartan factory. Paid members are registered to Art Averell, whose E-mail address is Contact Art to obtain the discount when you place your order. Identify yourself as a member of TOSCA. Having heard no objections to our announced guidelines for membership, we will continue to be an organization of Tartan boat owners and those who own late-model C&Cs built by Novis Marine.

TOSCA Newsletter Subscription

Until now, we have been sending our newsletter to all known Tartan and owners of Novis Marine C&C vessels, assembled by Dorothy Allen of Southern California Yacht Sales. If you have not yet paid your dues, and we do not hear from you, this will be the last newsletter you will receive from us. If you are unable to reach us, please contact SC Yachts for more information.

The 2008 TOSCA Rendezvous, June 13-15

The 2008 Rendezvous will be held at Two Harbors, at Catalina Island, from Friday, June 13 through Sunday, June 15. If you have not visited Two Harbors, this is a beautiful, charming, and rustic small community. You should become familiar with it! Plan to arrive on Friday. Upon arrival, you first check in with the Harbor Patrol boat cruising around outside the moorings. They will assign you to a specific mooring on a first come, first served basis (no reservations). We do not anticipate a problem obtaining a mooring on this particular weekend (all boats last year were accommodated). We will be in contact with the Harbormaster Doug Oudin, who will attempt to cluster our group as feasible. The most pleasant part of the cove is on the West side, near the cliff, so ask the Harbor Patrol person if they can put you in this area. If you are unfamiliar with Two Harbors, or with Catalina more generally, please go to This site will explain the mooring system and how it operates, but do not hesitate to ask the Harbor Patrol assist you if necessary. They are very skilled and are very willing to help boaters moor their boats. Last years cruise plan worked out splendidly, and we envision a similar format this year. There will be an opening night barbecue Friday evening, where you bring your own meat, fish, wine, or whatever, and we will arrange for salad and trimmings. We will have a seminar speaker Saturday morning, and once again we will have the mid-day dinghy raft up with potluck fare. The raft up was a tremendous success last year! On Saturday evening we will have a (no host) cocktail hour followed by dinner at the Harbor Reef restaurant. There will be a raffle of goodies after the dinner. Last year, Dorothy came up with great stuff, and I am sure she will do so again.
