December 21, 2008

We wish to remind you of upcoming TOSCA events. Please notice the occasion of our traditional San Diego Boat Show TOSCA reception, Friday, January 9, 2009, at 5:30 pm (Tartan dock location).

San Diego Boat Show Reception:

Time flies when you are having fun. The San Diego Boat Show is right around the corner again, from Thursday through Sunday, January 8-11, 2009, at the San Diego Convention Center. That Friday at 5:30pm, we will be on the dock at the Tartan boat location, so please join us. We will have wine and light refreshments. If you have not attended the San Diego Boat Show, the Convention Center is located near San Diegos famous Gaslight Quarter so there are many fine restaurants within walking distance. A number of us will be planning to stay around for dinner afterwards, so if you are interested, plan to break bread with your TOSCA friends. We will not make specific plans for dinner, but we can all wander around and find something interesting.

Tartan C&C San Diego now headed by Dorothy Allen

We have big news for this years San Diego Show. Dorothy Allen has opened a new Tartan and C & C office in San Diego. Many of us know Dorothy well because of her enthusiastic support of past TOSCA activities. She has been a real sparkplug and we would not be where we are without her considerable efforts in our behalf. The new office is in the Shelter Island Boatyard, and her firm will not only be selling Tartans and C & Cs, but will be a full service brokerage, which will also sell pre-owned power and sail boats. If you need assistance with anything related with your Tartan, please get into contact with her. Telephone numbers are (619) 222-1200 (office), (619) 708-3287 (cell), and email is Dorothy has arranged to have a Tartan 3700 and a C&C 115 at the show, and we can admire these boats as we sip our wine. Perhaps we can also provide motivation for some of the folks wandering by to purchase a Tartan.

TOSCA 2009 Dues

As you know, TOSCAs annual dues are $30.00. It is time to renew your membership, so please send a check to TOSCA, c/o Doug Mills, 5061 Berean Lane, Irvine, CA. 92603. Keep in mind that when you join TOSCA, you will receive a 10% discount on any parts you order from the factory. Each year several members have won door prizes valued in excess of the annual membership cost. Doug and Sandy Mills have already enjoyed Tartan parts discount, so it works! When you order something, let Art Averell know you are a TOSCA member.

The TOSCA Two Harbors Cruise, Friday-Sunday, June 12-14, 2009

As you look ahead into 2009, please save the weekend from Friday through Sunday, June 12-14. This will be the date of our third annual Two Harbors Cruise. Last year the turnout was excellent, with twelve Tartan boats showing up. Everyone had a delightful weekend, which began with a barbecue Friday evening, a mid day dinghy gathering and a Saturday night dinner at the Harbor Reef Restaurant. This is a great time to relax at a charming part of Catalina Island, and to chat with your fellow Tartan owners. This year we will announce a formal speaker and program. We expect to have Tartan owners as far away as San Francisco. Lets make the turnout even bigger in 2009! We will be providing you with more details as the date comes closer.

TOSCA Web site gets much-needed repair!

Our own Keith Wilson has been hard at work rehabilitating the TOSCA Web site, Thanks to you, Keith, for this much needed shot in the arm. Another member, Frank Conner, is available to help and we look forward to his participation as well. Please go to the Web site to see Keiths good-looking handiwork. Offer your comments to Bill Solberg or to Keith Wilson directly.

The First San Diego Fall Event, held October 11-12, 2008

In October 2008, we had our first TOSCA Rendezvous in San Diego, at the beautiful Sunroad Marina. The two undersigned brought their boats down to San Diego, and spend some very pleasant time in this lovely area. Several San Diego owners brought their boats over to Sunroad Marina, and all boats were open for Saturday afternoon. Quite a few people drove down from points north, so it was a delightful gathering. It is very interesting indeed to see what other folks have done with their boats. We concluded with a reception and dinner, and the whole weekend worked out splendidly. We will be planning another Fall Event in San Diego next year, with date and location to be announced.
