Start Of A New Year!

Dear Fellow TOSCAns:

Here we are at the start of another year! After an overly cool summer and after getting soaked for a lengthy period in December, lets hope that we are now going to see the kind of pleasant weather that gives us the urge to get out and do something with our boats!

You have not heard from us for a bit of time and we are now looking ahead for the year. As you know, there have been major, most welcome changes in the Tartan organization. As we discussed in the newsletter last August, Tartan has been purchased by Steve and Stephanie Malbasa, who became enthused about Tartans after their purchase of a new 4300. Last summer we had a delightful meeting with Steve and Stephanie along with Greg Farrah, who is organizing Tartan dealerships in the Southern California area. Greg is also the Tartan dealer in Marina del Rey. We were delighted to learn that in San Diego Jack Buckley is back on board as a Tartan dealer and we are most eager to interact with Jack, Dea Allen and the other members of his crew. We understand that there are plans underway to establish a new dealership in Ventura as well. Stay tuned. When the Ventura dealership is in place, for the first time in memory we will see Tartan dealerships throughout the Southern California area. We should see more Tartans out here, and it will be great for present Tartan owners to have a dealer close to their neighborhood.

It is time to start doing things!

We have two activities planned at the moment:

  1. There will be a TOSCA gathering at the San Diego Boat show, which you may know will now be in Sunroad Marina instead of its old location in the San Diego Convention Center. The dates of the boat show will be from Thursday, January 27 through Sunday, January 30. We understand that there will be a Tartan 4300 in the show, along with a Tartan 3700. We are both unfamiliar with the 4300 and we suspect this is true of many of you as well. So this will be a fine opportunity to look the two boats over. We are planning a TOSCA gathering for the evening of Saturday, January 29 at approximately 4:30 in the evening. We will meet on the dock near the Tartan boats. The thought is that those interested can get together for dinner. We will plan on setting up a group reservation at Fiddler’s Green Restaurant near Shelter Island. Can you let us know whether or not you plan to attend, so we can let the restaurant know the size of our party?
  2. The Fifth Annual TOSCA Cruise to Two Harbors
We plan our annual cruise to Two Harbors, Catalina on the weekend of June 24-26. Those of you who have been on the cruise before know this is a great time of year at Two Harbors. The “summer crunch” has not yet quite arrived, so it is easy to get a mooring. As before, we will plan on a Friday arrival with events planned for Friday evening through Saturday evening. This is a great time to exchange thoughts with other Tartan owners. There are a lot of clever people in TOSCA, and it is very interesting to hear what others do with their boats, and what they have done to them, We hope those of you who have not made the cruise will come along this year. Its been a great event. Please put it on your calendar and you will hear more details as the date approaches.

One Final Point

The annual TOSCA dues of $30 are due now. Please send a check to TOSCA, c/o Doug Mills, 5061 Berean Lane, Irvine, Ca. 92603.

We look forward to another great year!
