Summer Time is Almost Done

Dear Fellow TOSCAns:

It has been a busy and delightful summer! The season was initiated by our highly successful cruise to Two Harbors on Catalina Island on June 12-14. We were very pleased indeed to see that 16 boats attended this event, with TOSCA members from Ventura to San Diego. Also Sharon Albert came down from Northern California. She is organizing TONCA, the Northern California equivalent of TOSCA. We hope as they get underway that the two organizations will be in close contact. Everyone had a delightful time at the cruise, so if you missed this year please put the event on your calendar for next year. We will plan on the dates of Friday, June 11 through Sunday, June 13, 2010.

The Fall Rendezvous; Sunroad Marina, October 10, 2009

We are now planning our 2009 Fall Rendezvous, which will be held in San Diego at Sun Road Marina on Saturday, October 10. As we did last year, on Saturday we will have an open boat afternoon. Some TOSCANs have their boat in the marina, and slips will be available Saturday night for those who want to come in for the weekend. This will be a delightful opportunity for our San Diego friends to plan a local weekend cruise, and some of us may bring our boats down from elsewhere. Both of the undersigned did this last year, and we used the Rendezvous as an opportunity to spend a bit of time in beautiful San Diego Bay. There is a very nice Pavilion in this marina, and we will organize a dinner there that evening. So set this date aside! You will hear further from us shortly. If you plan to come, we would appreciate an e-mail so we can get an estimate of how many will attend. As the date comes closer, we will ask you to complete a registration form in advance of the event.

The TOSCA Web Forum

As you know, Tartan owners are few and far between on the West Coast, and the TOSCA group is scattered over a wide geographical region, from Ventura to San Diego. One purpose of TOSCA is to link owners together, and we have been doing this through our various events, which provide an opportunity for our group to get together. A goal we have had for some time is to establish a Forum on the Web which will allow people to post messages and exchange information. Thanks to the efforts of Keith Wilson, such a forum is now activated on the TOSCA Web site, www.gotosca.org. You will be asked to register with a username and password when you try to access this feature. The Forum can be used for all sorts of purposes. If you have an inquiry about how to do something on your boat, very likely someone out there in our group can offer advice. If you are planning an interesting cruise somewhere and you are looking for other boats that might be interested in joining you, put out a message. The Forum will work only if it is active. So lets all try to check it out at least once a week, and post items. It will be great if we can get active interactions underway between TOSCANs in between our events!
